Top 5 Favorite Benefits of Journal Writing

This week, I’ve been spending a lot of time in my journal.  Now when I say journal, what I really mean is my laptop (pages), my cell phone (Evernote), note cards, and paper journal.  For me journal writing is not so much about the where, but about the what.  The what is getting my thoughts and feelings out in written (& visual) form.  This process helps me to make sense of the world.

This month, we’ll be exploring the journal writing process here on the blog.  Today, I thought it would be good to start by sharing my 5 favorite benefits to personal journal writing.  At the end of the month I’ll share a sneak peek into my personal art journaling process, which I think you’ll really enjoy.  So let’s jump into my top 5 favorite benefits to journal writing!

Top 5 Benefits to Journal Writing

Benefit #1 – Journal Writing Helps You Clear Mental Clutter

Writing in your journal is a great way to clear mental clutter.  Having a space to get all of the “noise” out of your head and onto the page can help you get unstuck.  This is great for those of you who are multi-passionate creatives like me!  It will help you move out of the ideas phase and into action.

Benefit #2 – Journal Writing Helps You Organize Your Thoughts

In addition to clearing mental clutter, journal writing can help you organize your thoughts.  Once you get the jumble of words out of your head and onto the page, you can start to make sense of things.

Your journal is a sacred space that is always available to you.  You can use it to freely express your thoughts and feelings.  You can complain about the day, express frustration, & celebrate your successes.  Your journal is a great companion who ears are always open.

Benefit #5 – Journal Writing Helps You Explore New Ideas

Your journal is a wonderful playground.  You can capture and explore new ideas in the safety of the page.  You don’t have to worry about messing up or making a mistake.  You can use your journal to explore freely and then decide if you want to take action on the ideas you’ve discovered or not.
